My mother Julia (Julie) Sayers worked at the Bluebell Factory in De Morgan Street during the 1940s (writes Derek Sayers). Bluebell metal polish was made there. At the museum where I work (Bletchley Park) we have a memorabilia and toy collection which includes a can of 'Bluebell' with the Fulham address on it. Here is a photo of the cardboard box room. This is where the cardboard boxes were made to store the 'Bluebell' cans. The machines were known I think as 'stitchers', in fact they stapled the boxes together. My mother is working on the middle machine. I remember the hourly rate at the time was a shilling and eighpence three farthings (about 8p).
