Julie Sayers- Bluebell Factory Print E-mail

My mother Julia (Julie) Sayers worked at the Bluebell Factory in De Morgan Street during the 1940s (writes Derek Sayers). Bluebell metal polish was made there. At the museum where I work (Bletchley Park) we have a memorabilia and toy collection which includes a can of  'Bluebell' with the Fulham address on it.

Here is a photo of the cardboard box room. This is where the cardboard boxes were made to store the 'Bluebell' cans. The machines were known I think as 'stitchers', in fact they stapled the boxes together. My mother is working on the middle machine. I remember the hourly rate at the time was a shilling and eighpence three farthings (about 8p).
