Kenneth O'Harro- Sunlight Laundry Print E-mail

I worked at the South Park road depot South Wimbledon from 1960 til 1962, aged 17, position was a van boy and later a driver. I used to drive the white laundry vans, they were Dennis Pax's and Albions. I used to collect and deliver "Bagwash" from the shops at Fulham, Chelsea, Kensington and Richmond, and covered for drivers or van boys when they were sick or late getting up.

We also delivered washed and Ironed. They were wrapped in brown paper parcels. Delivered house to house.

The only drivers I can remember are Len Knight, Paddy, Harry, Odd but I cannot remember the other drivers names (yet). Basil Newman used to be the Transport Manager. Mr Wright was the general Manager.

My Mum also worked in the accounts office (Mary Turner). she worked with Eve Blythe who had two brothers working there Ron and Reg Blythe.

I had some smashing times while I was there with friends who worked in the laundry.
