I worked for NTG (when it was still referred to as "The Gas Board"!) as a fitter's mate, but I was based at their Westminster depot in Vincent Street, SW1. I, together with a few other employees who lived in Sands End, used to be given a lift to Westminster depot by one of the transport drivers ("Curly" something or other, who lived in what was at the time one of the new council houses in Imperial Road, opposite the gas-making plant. He had to leave left his company vehicle parked overnight in Fulham depot. Newly married,I moved to Fulham in 1962 into a 3-roomed ground floor flat at 68 Stephendale Road. We moved away from Fulham in 1966, then, in the latter part of 1977, I returned to the West London area, where I was re-employed by NTG, by now known as British Gas, as a salesman, initially in their Kensington showroom, then working out of their Fulham showrooms in North End Road, as a central heating/survey representative and I continued to cover this area as part of my patch, until I retired in 2004.
