I went to Fulham Power Station in 1957 to work as a fitter and ended up working as a rigger and scaffolder. i used to work scrapping out chimneys and boilers and erecting scaffolding. Boilers were 20ft deep, 20ft across and 18ft high. They wanted me to go to Northfleet when the Power Station closed in 1981 but I didn't want to go and took redundancy. My wife and I moved into Barton House when I retired but we didn't like living on the 18th floor. We then moved into a 5th floor flat in Coomber House where we lived for 20 years. My wife died in 2007 and I now live in sheltered accommodation in Pearscroft Road. My daughter Brenda works on a fruit stall opposite Iceland in North End Road and my grandaughter Tracy nearby in a shop selling nuts.
