I was Transport Manager at Drayton's between 1973 and 1986. We had a great set of drivers there. Charlie Cox worked for Drayton's from school to retirement, with a gap for the War years. So did Len Barton. Another driver Viv Woodward was previously a footballer for Fulham, QPR and Brentford in his younger days. Then there was Jim Jones, who wore nothing but trousers and a string vest to drive in regardless of the time of year. Where would you get people like that today? I stayed with Drayton's until they closed in 1986. I have to say I have never enjoyed a job as much since. If that old 'b' Parsons hadn't decided to cash in his chips and dump everyone on the redundancy list I think we would all still be there and happy to be so.
