We lived in a five storey block, parents with three boys and three girls in just three bedrooms. There were no lifts. Coalman had to carry sacks of coal upstairs. We had open fires in those days. Milk was delivered by horse and cart. There were many large families but no trouble between neighbours. Collections were made from each flat for funerals. There were two large courtyards used by the kids for football and games. Read about Ron Springett's football career under heading 'Personalities.' His former neighbour John Warren also writes about the Springett family in this section.
