I lived at number 50 Barton House on the Townmead Estate from about 1967 till 1977. Chris Merlini was a good mate of mine in those days and lived on the floor below me. We have just made contact after 30 years after I saw his name on the web site. There used to be three of us- the third being Steve Wilkins who also lived in Barton House but last time i heard of him he lived in Isleworth. Most of my friends were on or near to the estate. Barton House I used to play a lot of football in South Park. Seemed to always be there. Also played for the Townmead Estate Football club and i remember us playing a lot in Richmond Park for some reason. We went to the Fun Fair at Battersea Park on a regular basis in those days.. I remember a big water chute as you came in. There was a Paper Mill on Townmead Road next to the Bridge. They had a few little fires there till a really big one burnt the whole place down in the early 1970s. There was a really good eel and pie shop near to the library in Wandsworth Bridge Road that I used to go to, cheap and cheerful food. I had pie, mash and licquor ( a green gravy) as I did't fancy the eels! There was also a record shop just before it where I bought my first single from (Cosy Powell "Dance With The Devil). Remember loads of antique shops along that bit of Wandsworth Bridge Road. They began on the side road leading to South Park. i worked in Security at the New Charing Cross and we were responsible for security on the site of the old Western Hospital until it was demolished to make way for the new FULHAM Ambulance Station in Seagrave Road. I also worked in C.S.S.D. I was there between 1974 and 1977. I was one of the boys who assessed, packed and delivered the "theatre" equipment. I joined the Ambulance Service in 1986.
