There was a shoe-mender called Sergeant or Sergent on the corner of Althea Street. I remember he was an invalid who went around in a motorised wheel chair. He used to blow his horn and his wife would put the ramps out for him to drive up. Also on the corner of Althea Street was Vint Brothers convenience store. On the corner of Hamble Steet was a scrap merchant called Jacksons (pictured below) and a cafe run by an Italian lady.
Photo Hammersmith and Fulham Archives Downstairs at number 64 Townmead Road lived the Wells family Mr & Mrs (she was deaf) with their son John and daughter Audrey. Up stairs were Mr & Mrs Nichols. Alec & Daisy Boyd lived at 68 with their children Maureen, Alex Margaret and Raymond.
I went to live at 66 Townmead Road after the War with my mother who had re married. My step-father was Alf Gunn. I lived there until 1957 when I went into the army. I then lodged at number 68 between August 1959 and June 1960. Also, read about Dave Line's time in Lindrop Street.
