We originally came to Sands End  from Notting Hill. We had to move to make way for the new Westway motorway and what is now the Edward Woods Estate. We moved to Pearscroft Court in May 1964. I don't know if you realise it but there were quite a few families from our area that moved onto Pearscroft and into the new houses in Pearscroft Rd opposite 'The Lizzie' pub, including my nan and grandad and my aunts and uncles. It was like a palace compared to where we lived. There, my mum, dad,  my older brother and I slept in the same bedroom with the old tin bath and the outside loo. At Pearscroft we had our own bedrooms, bathroom and indoor loo.

My Dad worked for B.P in Townmead Road so he walked to work instead of riding his old Iron Duke bike from 'The Hill' as he had done for ten years or more.

Generally we had a good time growing up in Fulham with plenty of friends. 1969-1972 were the happiest of my chidhood due to the fashions, music, friends and also I think the times were more innocent. I am in touch with one of the girls from when we all knocked around together. The girls were regarded if you like as 'one of the chaps' so to our little gang they were important members.

As for some of the characters on the estate where would you start? Some are remembered fondly and others I would rather not talk about as it does bring back memories of being picked on because we weren't from Fulham but these people soon realised that not everyone from Notting Hill woud turn the other cheek  so after a while we were accepted.

My brother still lives in the area and he now regards himself as a Fulham Boy, although he still supports QPR. But his youngest son thinks of himself as coming from Notting Hill, his two best mates are from that area.
