I lived at 20 Lindrop Street. How I came to be there is another story. Mrs Baldwin was my grandmother but Alf Baldwin was not my grandfather My true grandfather was killed 1915 at the Battle of the Somme. We originate from Northamptonshire and I came to live at number 20 in 1941 (my mother and father had split up). I lived there during the war and well remember The Blitz. My sister (God rest her soul) was Zena Line. She had a shock of ginger hair and worked at Reckittt & Coleman in De Morgan Street. Used to be quite a few street traders in those days. The cockles and mussels man used would shout "shrimps and winkles all fresh, right off the boat" and he was followed by the man with a barrel on a hand cart shouting "vineger oi". There was also Leo the lolly man who used to sell the first multi coloured lolly ices in a biscuit tin from the back of a van. When he turned the corner the shout would go up "Leo's". I went to Peterbrough School and then to Ackmar Road. See also Townmead Road for David Line.
