I always remember my mother telling me that during the war the Germans were trying to bomb Fulham Power station and a German pilot had to bail out and landed in the back yard of the newsagents on the corner with Stephendale Road and promptly gave himself up. I was born in Fulham in 1951 and lived in Hazlebury Road from 1951 until 1972 when I moved nearer to Putney Bridge. What I can say is that Fulham in general was a great place to grow up in the 50's and 60's although I would, not want to live there now or for that matter London generally The houses in Hazlebury,Rosebury,Cranbury ,Oakbury and Snowbury Road were up to the early seventies owned by the Hever Estate and divided into 2 flats each. In about 1971/2 the Hever Estate gave people the chance to buy those houses either as individual flats or one resident buying the house with the other flat becoming a sitting tenant. A friend of mine in Hazlebury got married very young at 20 and his wife moved in with him and his widowed mother. The cost of the house to buy was either £4,000 or £4,500. I hate to think what those houses are going for today.

I can tell you that Fulham and Sands End have changed not out of all recognition but a great deal since I grew up there.
