I lived at number 46 Elbe Street till 1960. We lived in the upstairs and Mrs Hopkins lived downstairs. There were six in our family.

We were all friends when I lived in Elbe Street. Everybody knew one another and looked out for each other. We were lucky on our street because we only had houses down one side.

I worked in the priceing office at Sunlight Laundry from 1954-55 and then at Peter Jones in Sloane Square for a number of years. Also had a spell in the army.
