The dustcarts come along Edenvale Street to unload at what we always called the "Dust Shute." There was a story that during the blitz a German aircraft was shot down and went into the Thames near the power station. The pilot was killed either in the air or when his parachute failed to open and he landed in the garden of the newsagents shop on the corner of Stephendale and Hazelbury Road. I don't know how much truth there is in this story but I've heard it mentioned several times. I lived in Edenvale Street from just about when I was born in 1938 to 1957 when I joined the army. My parents, and later my mother after she was widowed, continued to live there until about 1985. I remember the Onion family. They had a daughter Lucille - not sure of the spelling - and possibly younger ones. I know Barbara Jerrom and often chat with her on messenger. I have also visited another ex Edenvale resident Terry Grafton who lives in Norfolk. Below are my invitation to the Edenvale Coronation Day party in 1953 and photographs.
