I was born in small Cranbury Road at number 64 on 23rd June 1946 and was a surviving twin. My dad Albert Roberts was known as Bob and was brought up in the lower flat of number 66. When he got married to my mum Doll they both moved into the upper flat of 64. They bought the whole house when we three sisters left home. Then they sold it and moved to Andover in Hampshire, having lived there for 40 years. I had two sisters. Dawn the eldest was born in 1940 and Alicia the youngest in 1950. My oldest sister is now 67 and living in Hampshire (2007). Anita Brown was my eldest sister's friend. She got married to John Heard who lived right down the other end of Cranbury and had one daughter before she died in her early fifties. I got married to John Whitten in 1965 who lived in Hazlebury Road and we moved in with his mum for two years.* Let me tell you about the nicknames we gave Cranbury and Oakbury Roads. The residents called them, small Cranbury and big Cranbury, small Oakbury and big Oakbury as they ran into each other.
Justina Whitten is the girl in this 1977 Queen's Silver Jubilee photo (now Justina Stevens). She is one of my daughters and was born in December 1966. I am not sure of the boy's name but he too came from one of the Burys. He also had a younger brother. The person dressed as the clown at the same party is Pauline Thorpe, who still lives in Cranbury Road. This photo and the remaining ones were supplied by another local resident Michael Neagle.
VE Day photos supplied by Veda Whitten and Michael Neagle. *Read more about Veda's in the Hazlebury Road section of 'Where We Lived.'
