My fondest memory is of every Christmas morning. On the way home from church we would call in to see our neighbours Floss and Arthur and they would give us chocolate money from their Christmas tree. It was such a treat and I think of them every Christmas now, They were so kind to us and loved children. I also remember a lady on our road called Kath Mockridge. She was mum’s friend and loved to see us all playing.  She gave my sister a doll which my sister still has and her children play with it now. There was also an old lady called Mrs Connie who had a dog called Toby. She used to chat to us all the time and let us stroke her dog.

One day our cat was about to have kittens and we brought all the kids in to watch. Nothing was happening so Mum sent them all home while we had our tea and all of a sudden kittens starting to appear in the box. They looked like wet mice.  I remember taking one of the kittens out into the street to show everybody.

My parents Oliver and Barbara Lennon bought number 21 Althea Street in 1964 when they got married. They had five children within 5 years 1964 -1969. My brother Hughie and four girls to follow- me, Marie, Barbara and Geraldine. We lived next door to a boy called Julian who was a bit younger than me and on the other side was an elderly couple Mr and Mrs Poole.

There was a playground at the end of the road which has now been made into flats. Many children lived in our road and we would play outside all the time. I remember Jane and Susan Coulson, Kathy and Jane Hobbs, Lucy and Andre Pace, Charlie Boldachino and a girl called Angela, whose  dad did a cine film of us playing in the street.  We must have been about six or seven years old then. I would love to see that film. There were also children from Hamble Street which was the next road - Martin and Jason Long, Stephen and Michael Wallace. I bumped into Michael recently for the first time in 30 years! I also had a lovely friend called Heather who was run over by a milk float and sadly died. That was my first memory of something awful happening.

I am married with a five year old daughter. We left Fulham and moved to Shepherds Bush in 1976 and I now live in Ruislip with a very nice community like we had in Althea Street - lots of children and families. Mum and dad have also just moved from Shepherds Bush to Ruislip after 30 years. My brother and sisters also have children and they are all still living in and around West London.
