The Church on the corner was then called "Our Lady of Perpetual Succour". This was a Catholic Church run by Father Eaton. The Mass was held in Latin. Women wore head dress to church and we ate fish  on Fridays. Several houses were knocked down in Tynemouth Street to create a site for the new house and garage (the only one in the street) for the priest.
