I started my schooling during the war and remember the rough-bricked, windowless room we trooped into when the air raid syren sounded. Langford Road was then just a row of blitzed and abandoned buildings from one end to the other. Naturally, being children, we disobeyed orders and played in the ruins occasionally. I remember the headmaster Mr Garrard. The primary school headmistress was a Miss Hobbs. My photo was taken in February 1950 showing Mr Garrard the Headmaster on the left and another teacher whose name I can’t remember. I can only name four of the boys –Alan Brandon, Michael Haines, Tommy Moore and Brian Towner.
