I used walk through Bryan's Alley which was a short cut from Broughton Road to WBR and the Star was just on the left. I believe the Alley was one of the exterior walls of the cinema. Mate of mine Matthew McGee used to live next to the alley. We kids (young "herberts" really) used to call it the "Bug Hutch". It was very easy to 'bunk in' and we did that a lot when quite young. Got to be a bit more respectable when in my early teens and used to pay. Never took any girlfriends there as it was a little run down. I do recall that they did have rows of seats missing due to vandalism. I cannot recall me vandalizing the place but I was certainly not respectful of it. When I was about 14 I joined the Air Cadets and when one of the Air Force Benevolent days came around they were showing Reach for the Sky- the film about Douglas Bader and his exploits before and during WW2. We in the cadets were asked if we would go out and collect donations for this fund. One of the venues was the Star and we were allowed to get in free and go around with the box before the start, during the interval and just as they were coming out. Can't really remember the price of tickets in those days but I believe it must have been around 9 old pennies for the stalls and about a shilling for the better seats. I moved at around 15. The next time I came down WBR it was demolished and another Fulham landmark (and memory) had gone.
