The Star was a good place for some back-row canoodling with your latest girl friend as it was cheap to get in. tickets 1/6 and 2/4. if I remember with half price if under 16 and U certificate. No admittance to minors when an A certificate film was showing unless accompanied by an adult. I remember seeing Jane Russell in Outlaw which struggled to get past the censors on account of the cleavage being shown. There was an alley way up the side which was used by a bookies runner to accept illegal street bets on the horses. The Star was known locally as the 'Bug Hutch' as it was well run down. As it was not part of the big cinema chains such as Rank or Gaumont it did not always show the most popular films in circulation at that time. In order to see the most current releases you had to go to the cinemas in Fulham Broadway.
