L.A. Wilcox- Painter Print E-mail

His paintings of ships are on display all over the World, including Buckingham Palace and the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich. Lesley Arthur Wilcox, professionally known as L.A Wilcox, was born at 72 Rosebury Road in 1904 and was christened at St Matthews Church. He raised his own family at 46 Wandsworth Bridge Road during and immediately after the Second World War.

The late artist's son William Wilcox writes:

"My dad got his big break in 1953 to paint the Queen's return from the Commonwealth tour. It's really the reason we left Fulham as he'd 'gone up in the world' and felt he needed a bigger house (we were renting the one in WBR.) The painting hung in the drawing room on the Royal Yacht Britannia until it was decommissioned a few years ago. I gather it's now hanging in Frogmore House at Windsor."

"We moved to a house in Barnes in 1954. Later my parents moved out of London to live near Littlehampton for the rest of their lives. My father died a little early in 1982.  He was 77."

William has kindly supplied these photos of his father's work and a review written by critic Frank Carr.
