John Noakes, the popular and adventurous presenter of the BBC Childrens' programme 'Blue Peter' was filmed high up the chimneys of Fulham Power Station in 1970. He recalled that day for me; " I had to climb up the chimney by ladder to where the workmen were suspended on wooden seats, in order to do the paint job. I remember a foreman showing me how to traverse from one seat to the next until I reached the seat from which I would be painting, which was fourth along the line..All this done without a safety harnesses...Those were the days!"
