For about 18 months during the early 1970s the newspaper paparazzi regularly visited Sands End Fulham in an attempt to photograph the young Prince Charles and Lady Jane Wellesley, daughter of the Duke of Wellington, who lived in Hazlebury Road and who the heir to the throne was courting. Lady Jane's former neighbours remember the excitement as the Prince often drove himself to his girlfriend's house. Writes John Wright, who lived at number 121; "Hers was the only house in the entire street that had a burglar alarm outside, perhaps a sign of things to come. Once a friend and I saw an Aston Martin draw up with a second car and sure enough it was Prince Charles." Another former resident was Christine Horrigan, who lived at number 3 writes. "There was great excitement because a young 'deb' called Lady Jane Wellesley moved into a flat in the road and she had a very famous man friend called Prince Charles! A large expensive chauffeured car was spotted pulling up there and collecting a man numerous times - I did not see him myself but I have it on good authority from our neighbours that they had "spotted im!" Lorraine Dunleavy who was brought up at number 55 says Lady Jane used to live next door to her parents at no 53 and that her mother got on very well with her. Prince Charles with Lady Jane Wellesley
